Complication:

Coal Mill liner plates & Multiple Port Outlet Ducts (MPO) are subject to severe erosion and often tend to dismantle after years of continuous operation. Replacing these wear plates entirely would be a costly and time-consuming affair.
Failures in coal mills are one of the most frequent reasons for failure to maintain the power plant’s critical operating parameters or even for unanticipated power plant shutdowns.
(The key areas of concern in coal-fired power plants are the internal surfaces of coal mills, the pulverized coal pipework, and the burner internals)

Solution:

Duromar® Duro-Tile (Aluminium Oxide Tile) is made from >90% Aluminum Oxide and is available in hexagonal tile sheets. It is designed to be used in conjunction with DUROMAR® HAR trowelable refractory bonding epoxy for the ultimate protection areas subjected to severe wear and abrasion.
Duromar® HAR (Carbide Putty) is an abrasion resistant putty used primarily in areas requiring more resistance to fine slurries either in liquid or powder form. Common applications are in coal mills, chutes, ash hoppers, or deflector plates in FGD systems.
The DuroTile + Duromar® HAR application is a perfect alternative to replace these liner plates, not only helping in enhancing asset life but also significantly helping in saving capital costs. This is a solution that is also best suited to repair any damaged Multiple Port Outlet (MPO) ducts as against replascing them.
With regards to protecting the plug holes of the liner plates, a 20mm – 25mm thick layer of Duromar® HAR is applied to prevent further wear of these plates, especially around the welded areas. A more bulletproof and longerlasting fix would be to coat the entire line plates with a 1.5mm – 2mm thick layer of Duromar® HAR in addition to filling the plug holes.
